OK, now let me get this straight!!! I have never been to the first show on the first day of any film that has been released till date. I just came up with the title so that it looks catchy. But I did get the opportunity to watch five films on the day of it's release! I would love to share those WONDERFUL and AMAZING experiences with you guys. Sit back and enjoy! Make sure you catch some popcorn while going through this piece of er... hmm... well fill in the blank yourself after you finish reading.
1. RA. ONE
It was purely because of Shah Rukh that I chose this movie over Velayutham and 7am Arivu. And it is purely because of him that I rate this as the best of the five. If watching this film with friends was bad imagine watching this film with your father especially when he doesn't like SRK. Well, the film supplied me ample doses of boredom in addition to my father's evergreen remarks to make this experience an ever forgettable one! The "Rajini" fans came to watch their idol's guest appearance in the film. Some of posters of the film were even modified: IMAGINE A SEPARATE POSTER READING "JNI ONE" HANGING BESIDE THE WORDS "RA." COVERING ALMOST HALF OF THE ORIGINAL POSTER. Got it???? If not never mind. In simple words Thalaivar fans put the film in it's place!!!
2. RAJAPATTAI
Well I am not a quick learner and spent money to watch another film on the first day; the film being Rajapattai. Well I was in class 12 and after 3 sets of revision examinations I wanted to release the stress and films being easily accessible provided me that option. To be honest the posters of the film in the newspapers also lured me into the pit. The entire two hours and ten minutes could have been wasted in many ways, but by watching the film I killed time that too 140 minutes of it. From "my point of view" the director wanted to do a film in which Vikram should perform at least 10 stunts not to mention how unrealistic each of them was. Hence the film came into existence. Apart from the theme music I found nothing interesting. But Vikram came back strongly with Thaandavam. So did Suseenthiran with Adhalal Kadhal Seiveer and Paandiyanaadu.
3. ALEX PANDIAN
Two films must have taught me a lesson. Yes they did. But the story behind this movie was entirely different. Owing to Pongal holidays, Twelve of us decided to watch a movie together. Vishwaroopam was the obvious choice. But unfortunately the film's release did not take place and we were offered this film by the theater. Since we wanted to meet, we decided to go with the plan and watched Alex Pandian. After watching the first half, we felt that it was ok if not decent. But ten minutes into the second half, we started to talk among ourselves thus ignoring whatever was going on the silver screen. Santhanam's attempt to make us laugh failed with his dialogues becoming predictable. The stunts were half as unrealistic as that of Rajapattai making us breathe atleast. With nothing new, Alex Pandian was just ghee roast made in non-stick cookware. We ate lunch and played till six in the evening that brought us back to normalcy but not before Alex Pandian took it's opportunity and left a scar. By the way one of us did not turn up and ended up lucky!
4. AARAMBAM
By now you would have guessed it right. I did not learn from my mistakes. Please bear with me for two more films. This, interestingly, turned out to be the first Ajith Kumar film that I watched in theater. As it turned out, I decided that this should be the last film of Ajith Kumar that I should watch on the silver screen. Arya's story in the first half was seldom amusing. The director took the scenes involving Ajith with utmost care, maintaining his "gethu". It did save the film's face because Arya's story was going nowhere. At the end of first half, it looked as though the film was trying to get into shape somewhat. But from the beginning of the second half, it was DE JA VU; to some extent Alex Pandian experience repeated itself. Nothing much can be said about this film.
5. IRANDAM ULAGAM
After getting impressed by 7G Rainbow Colony and Aayirathil Oruvan, I made it a point to watch this movie on the very first day, despite all the above listed sour memories. Unfortunately Irandam Ulagam didn't dish out as good as 7G or Aayirathil Oruvan. In fact I got a hint of the film while walking towards the theater. Two people who had already watched the film were talking among themselves that it was like "Azhaguraja". True to their words, the film sort of maintained a low tempo from the very beginning and ended on the same note. On the brighter side the songs were good. Also Anirudh did a good job with the Back Ground Music in such a short span. By the way my friends wanted to go to Villa but I wanted to see this and they settled for this. Luckily they didn't beat me for choosing this film.
Well I think I have learnt my lesson. If not, you will see more posts like this.
